It's All About Mangos

In April my family held our 2nd Annual Iron Chef Competition.  We each got our call 3 hours before the judging time with the secret ingredient: Mangos.  Oh the ideas started popping and Frank and I ran right to Harmon's.  The best place close for gourmet and specialty items that is close to us.  We knew we could go sweet (dessert) or savory (entree) with this ingredient.  We chose savory.

Here are all the dishes ready for judging:

Turkey Mango Burritos (this was our dish)

Since our shopping time was limited, we could only go to a few stores and wouldn't you know they just happened to be out of the white, uncooked tortillas on this day.  We had to settle for wheat.  But other than that minor detail, these actually tasted really good.  We even made the mango salsa on top of each burrito and the sweet/savory Mango dipping sauce on the side.  However, we did not win this year.  The Mango sticky rice took 1st place.  I knew we should have gone for more of a dessert-type dish.  Lesson learned: Never compete against a sugary delicacy- you will lose.  However, we didn't know what anyone else was making so there was no way to know. It was super fun though.
