Oh yes, it finally came and I am so thankful for it. What a wonderful food holiday it is. This isn't just any food, this is the feast you dream about and wait for. This is the food that missionaries want just before they leave and the food they crave for two long years. It's probably a good thing this only happens once a year because it's all laden with butter and horrible yet wonderful carbs all at the same time. These are the best of the best dishes. This isn't the day to make a recipe you've never made before hoping it turns out. If you want to make a new dish you try it out a few days or weeks before to make sure you know how to make it.
Each year the food seems to get better and better. My dad is in charge of Thanksgiving. He cooks and has perfected the turkey-seriously he has. The white breast meat turns out so flavorful and moist. Along with the turkey was the delectable stuffing and tasty cranberry sauce. Other foods that graced the table: soft, warm rolls; sweet potatoes with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, milk and butter all whipped to perfection enhanced with golden marshmallows on top; spaghetti squash; mashed potatoes and gravy (made from the turkey drippings) and of course to compliment such a meal we ended with pumpkin and razzleberry pie. Oh sweet deliciousness. I am so thankful for all my dad's hard work on the food, my mom's hard work on getting the house ready, my sister's work for doing the squash and pies, and everyone else's help on clean-up duty and kid entertainment. It was so pleasing, but now it's time to sleep.
